In bagging those successful online hookups, here are a few things you should keep in mind that you should NOT do.

• Acronyms or abbreviations

Don't ignore acronyms and abbreviations. Acronyms are fine in your profile introduction text or title line where you are restricted by the limit in the number of characters. In your main profile, you can expound on this to be sure everyone understands who you are.

• Don't give out private information

Not at least until you are comfortable with your potential partner. This would include your personal email address, (use a different email account for this type of endeavor), your telephone number, and any instant messenger accounts you're using. Set one or two up specifically for online dating chat.

• When corresponding through email, don’t write your life story

Nothing turns a woman off more than a man who can't shut up. If you don't believe me, the next time you're corresponding with a woman you've met online, write a one-page email about what you like to do on weekends and see what kind of response you get.

• Don't use foul language

There's no need to use bad language in your profile. You want to look smart and cultured, not bargain-basement.

• Don't be negative

If you are a pessimist, say that you're realistic instead. If you feel overweight, say you're big and beautiful! If you've had a difficult time in your life, say that you're at a crossroads. As one door closes, another opens.

• Don’t lie

It's a known fact that a significant percentage of men and women lie about themselves, whether it's about marital status, income, education level, or occupation, when it comes to creating an online profile of themselves. It is a known fact that lies will catch up on you—sooner than later. And if you find a woman who is really interested in you and you've lied to her, it's just a matter of time before she finds out the truth.

• If meeting for the first time

First impressions count, so wear something smart and comfortable in going for successful online hookups. Don't talk about yourself all the time. Show interest in what your date has to say about themselves, and remember to compliment them.
